Validating signed email at the DNS layer
DKIM lets a sending system sign selected message headers and content with a private key. Receivers retrieve the matching public key from a selector-specific DNS hostname. A wrong selector, broken TXT value or retired key makes an otherwise legitimate signature unverifiable.
Keep separate selectors for different mail platforms and rotate keys without deleting the old selector until previously sent mail has cleared normal delivery windows.
