How to understand your results

Use these signals to decide what to check next.

01

Address records

A and AAAA records should point to the intended IPv4 and IPv6 hosting endpoints.

02

Routing records

CNAME, MX and NS records reveal where web, mail and authoritative DNS traffic is sent.

03

Policy records

TXT records commonly contain SPF, verification tokens and other service policies.

HOSTGRABER EXPERT GUIDE

Diagnosing DNS from authority to destination

A reliable DNS review starts with nameservers and moves toward individual records. NS records identify the authoritative provider, A and AAAA records route website traffic, CNAME records create aliases, MX records route mail and TXT records carry verification or security policies. A mistake at any layer can make a healthy server appear offline.

When moving a website to HostGraber, copy every required record before changing nameservers. Lowering TTL in advance can shorten the caching window, but old answers may remain visible until their previous TTL expires. Verify both the root domain and common hostnames such as www after the change.

COMMON QUESTIONS

DNS Lookup FAQ

Practical answers from the HostGraber team.

How long do DNS changes take?+

Updates may appear quickly, but cached records can remain until their TTL expires. Global propagation can therefore take several hours.

Why do I see different DNS answers?+

Resolvers may be serving cached data, geographic routing may return different endpoints, or nameservers may not be synchronized.

Does changing web hosting change email DNS?+

Not automatically. Preserve the existing MX and email-related TXT records when moving a website unless the email provider is changing too.
